Michaelbrent Collings, Predators review

Michaelbrent Collings’ Predators is a horror story of a different nature. More like reality bites and I do mean bites! Set in a wildlife park in Africa we find families and couples who for various reasons have come to enjoy nature up close. Yet, they will soon realize they are getting more than they bargained for.

Gram, Gale, and Craig have come to fulfill little Gale’s wish of “seeing” elephants. Young Gale has lost her sight but by having her father and grandmother describe things to her she is able to paint vivid images in her head. This is to be their last trip together as a family because one of them is ill.

We also find Selena and Evie two women with domineering partners who come across as weak and accommodating until faced with a do or die situation. Along with these two couples, there are several others that will be tested when the trek outside the park goes terribly wrong.

Naeku and her brother Legishon are the guides that will be driving these fine folks to meet their destiny.  Born in Africa Naeku and her brother know what dangers await for those who don’t follow the rules but sometimes one cannot predict what another will do.

The first mistake to set the tragedies that are about to befall them is accepting latecomers aboard their vehicles, the second, going off course to see if the could catch sight of some wildlife.

This book is a bit of a 3-ring circus, in a good way. There is so much going on with the characters both in the present and in their backstories that lead them to this point of no return. On top of that, we are privy to the thoughts of Queenie, leader of the pack of predators that have set their sights on the “food” so conveniently placed within their range. Tragedy abounds and there really isn’t any way to predict the outcome.
