C.L. Hernandez ‘Mr Goddard’s Menagerie’ Review

Written by: Wesley Thomas

Well, this book is almost indescribably brilliant. But I will give it a shot!

So, essentially we have a werewolf in an abusive relationship, Zuri. I adore the character of Zuri. She has so much depth and character. This woman is a kind-hearted, loving spirit. So loving in fact, that she refuses to kill anything. Dean, her boyfriend, is a complete tool. He is arrogant, sexist, and an all-around jerk. I despise him.

So, there you have a rough idea of how the story begins. Whilst fleeing, Zuri ends up becoming a prisoner to a loathsome old man who has a collection of various monsters, all of them being held prisoner.

We follow Zuri in this unsettling, bizarre, thrilling new world she has stumbled into. But the determined werewolf does not want to be held prisoner in this house of monsters, despite some of them being friendly. Can she come up with a way to escape?

This book is fantastic! From the brand new monsters, new twists on classic monsters, the storyline, the tension, the comical moments, and even the setting: a desert.

Cindy’s writing flows effortlessly. The pacing is fast, removing any boring moments that usually dull even the world’s best books. Bravo to the author!

Side note: although Jerimiah was cruel on occasion, I actually really liked his sarcastic quips and remarks.

So, if you like books with monsters, horror, tension, great descriptions, unsuspecting twists, and an unforgettable climax, then I suggest you grab a copy now!

  2. Great review, although it sounds more like an urban fantasy with horror elements (esp, with that cover) than a horror novel. Still, you have tempted me. 🙂
