The Best Moments of Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith’s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Part 3

Pages 84 and 86 (85 features an illustration) give us a fantastic look at the unorthodox connection between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. The sexual tension between these two makes for an awfully compelling read. Having been certifiably sucked into the novel I am itching to see these two put the BS to rest and move forward on a romantic level.

The two dance at a ball, each psychologically probing the other, throwing dark barbs to measure responses. It isn’t the most pleasant of dances, but it paints both figures as ruthless characters with soft spots that their not entirely comfortable exploring. You’ve got to love that touch of true humanity.

You’ve also got to love the fact that this moment segues directly into a quick tangle with zombies. This time, Elizabeth doesn’t get her hands dirty, she leaves that to Darcy. There’s no doubt it did something for Elizabeth, who’s closer to the ways of the warrior than the lady. It also captures the essence of the novel as a whole perfectly.

Things are beginning to take an interesting turn in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. With every page turned the characters become more interesting. The conflicts are a wonder to behold, and things look promising. I expect the next 200 pages to be absolutely insane.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, the cinematic adaptation, opens theatrically tomorrow. Here’s hoping it’s every bit as infectious as the novel.
