Tim Waggoner ‘The Last Mile’ Review

Written by: Paula Limbaugh

Aah, Tim Waggoner what can I say.  Another stunning offering from DarkFuse.  If you read my reviews you know I’ve been reading a lot of his books lately.  It’s like an addiction, I always want more.

It was just another day, Dan was driving home from work when the sky grew dark, dogs began to howl, birds fell from the sky and then “the sky opened a million eyes and gazed down upon him with alien hunger.”  This marked the beginning of what would forever be known as the Arrival.

The animals have mutated into obscene caricatures of their former selves.  Now there are Masters that rule the Earth and the so-called lucky ones are their thralls.  Dan has a Master to please and a family that he is trying to care for, on his way to deliver a sacrifice he is derailed.  Fighting the odds he knows there is no room for failure, he just needs to get through that last mile.

“We’re all a little crazy now, she thought.  She glanced over her shoulder at the thrall.  Some of us more than others.”

Alice was working in a restaurant when the Arrival occurred.  When the food ran out, Alice ventured out in search of a meal only to be caught by Dan.  Now she’s on her  way to become the meal for Dan’s Master.

This is such a nasty little tale of survival.  In the World After only the cunning and cold-hearted will live.  It’s surprising what one will do in order to see tomorrow.  Be warned it can be gruesome at times!  This book is now available for pre-order right here.
