I’ll begin this review by splugeing all over your face. That’s exactly how this book made me feel. I can, without a doubt whatsoever tell you that this is within the top 25 best novels I’ve ever sat and read. Each and every page kept me enthralled and on the edge of my seat the entire time.
100 Nightmares by K.Z. Morano is a collection of 100 horror stories, each written in exactly 100 words, and accompanied by over 50 illustrations. Inside, you’ll find monsters–both imagined and real. There are vengeful specters, characters with impaired psyches, dark fairy tales and stories and illustrations inspired by bizarre creatures of Japanese folklore.
Let me break it down and try and explain some of the mind altering tales that lie within. Try and follow along if you will please. LITTLE GIRLS GAMES is a great offering of Red Riding Hood in a nasty little twist. GOLDEN LOCKS is sexy and cryptically penned as well as one of my favorite outings inside this f**kfest of words. HUMPTY’S WALL is just as the name entails in a barrage of evilish tales penned by the warped little mind of one of my favorite up and coming authors, who’ll paint the red door black and reverse REDRUM back to what it was. It’s that damn good folks.
Atop all of that as I sit here typing this review I can’t keep from smiling at the overly absurd ferociousness of her spin on Hansel and Gretel in SIBLING LOVE. I’ll leave it with one of the funniest and applauded tales in BETH BIRFDAY EFER. As previously stated I found myself laughing at the sheer shock of what I was reading. And as if her writings weren’t enough we are blessed with various dark and nasty illustrations accompanying several of the stories you read.
I could go on and on about the stories herein but I have to insist that you purchase this over at Amazon and see what I’m cheesing about for yourself. I’ve read a lot and seen a lot but have to admit that Morano caught me by surprise and has more rapidly than anyone else gained my respect and attention. It’s a keeper folks…go get it.
