[Pictorial] Early Sketches and Designs for the Halloween Anthology Cover, by Artist Danny Melby
I had the chance to meet up with super talented artist, Danny Melby today, and it was big business right off the bat. We spent the day brainstorming ideas for the Halloween flash fiction anthology. We eventually reached a safe, but bold design idea. And then, the pens, pencils and markers rolled out and I got the chance to watch the man go to work.
Danny really is a fantastic guy to work with, and people are going to know his name soon, as he’s got some projects in development that are going to have horror fans and dedicated collectors attempting maneuvers fit for limber youth.
We knew it would be a cool idea to give you guys a look at some of the earliest sketches and ideas (the cover won’t be officially finalized until October 26th) for the cover. So the camera followed the way of the artistic utensil.
Here’s a look at the first design and the manner in which it progressed.
At this point Danny wanted to tweak a few things, and change directions slightly. We grabbed a few pics from this design as well.
You can get a feel for the direction we’ll be heading with the cover. Again, something basic, but something that pops and obviously screams Halloween. A mutilated Jack o’Lantern just might do the trick!
The unveiling of the cover art goes down on the 26th!
A mutilated Jack o’lantern…awesome possibility here…just me….vitina
