A huge thanks goes out to Bell Night for gifting HNR the “Best Moment Award”. When I launched this little project I did so for a few very specific reasons. Raking in awards wasn’t one of them. And frankly, I never anticipated being acknowledged by a fellow blogger. Let alone a quality fellow blogger.

Why did I launch the site? First, I wanted to recognize some of the remarkable authors who have made a difference in my life. I think in today’s society, novels and works of fiction in general have lost steam. We as human beings seem to adjust to the advancements life gives us. That’s natural, I suppose. Unfortunately, between all the wild electronic gadgets hitting the market and all the new entertainment mediums that surface, it feels like our attention spans have dwindled. How many people really read these days?

The direction we’re heading in is sad, in my opinion. But hey, Debbie Downer has no business here. This post is all about positivity!

Second, I really wanted to do something for myself. I’ve spent more than half of my life working for “The Man”, and let me tell you, “The Man” could care less about you, me or our futures. We’re all expendable.  All “The Man” really cares about is the moment, how little he (or she) is forced to pay you, and extracting the absolute most from you while dishing out that feeble paycheck that leaves you struggling to keep up on the bills. Again, it’s another sad statement, but I can honestly say I don’t believe I’ve ever had an employer who cared about my well being as much as lining his/her own pockets.

Okay, seriously this time – no more negativity! was about freedom. And I must say, it’s been a very, very liberating experience. I’d liken running this site to running about your house stark naked, no concerns or inhibitions. As awkward as it is, that’s a very… open, warm feeling… that is now long beyond my ability, thanks in large part to the wonderfully rambunctious 11-year old running about my house… who would likely be scarred for life if she spotted papi strolling about as naked as the day he was born.

But there’s no need to conjure up nightmarish visions. All that really need be said is this: Thank you Bell Night!

  1. Huge thanks to you Matt. My Ghast has finally been Flabbered. Since our two genre’s are so far apart this must be akin to you writing a nursery rhyme. Your Badass reputation will disappear into smoke after this. I’m very grateful and shall try hard not to cry during the acceptance speech.

  2. Well done, Matt. Excellent speech, too. Onward and upward…Not sure about finding out the boss is a hyper-kinetic eleven year old naked boy. Just kidding. Kudos, my friend!

  3. Cheers to you Matthew…nice to read what you had to say. Also I agree …my granddaughter might be more then a little shocked at eleven to have you running around in the buff if not shocked definitely astounded …perhaps embarrassed…so keep your drawers on when my precious girl is about. I am glad to see your getting attention for doing this…I know it has brought me in touch with new writers and I am thankful for that.Kudos my son…as always…just me…Vitina…Mom…aka…the old hippie.

  4. Don’t thank me… Your blog definately deserves this award!!! Horror Novel Reviews is by far one of the best blogs on the internet. I loved the acceptance speech. Congragulations again!
