can’t lose with Lovecraft. Obviously one of if not the most influential of all time. Pretty amazing feat!
Damn, this was hard. I would have rather done a top 3 or 4, Lovecraft, Poe, Matheson, King – in that order. Matheson never gets any respect but his stories are so much a part of our film & TV culture, Twilight Zone, Night Gallery, TV movie of the Week, Masters of Horror, etc. I don’t think people even realize how much his work is prevalent.
Love Matheson’s work. He’s definitely one of the more… “slept on” authors of his time. GENIUS mind right there. Nightmare will always be an all time favorite short for me.
Had a really hard time trying to answer this. Having been a fan of Poe from my really early years of reading ,then finding myself for many years enthralled with King and Koontz and recently becoming aware of Lansdale..who I am amazed by his insane brand of horror…wow…to many…but I love the opportunity to vote for one..just tough to select…as always..just me….Vitina…the old hippie
